What you’re thinking of is boiled/cooked bones, which is the way most people think to give their dogs bones. After you’re done eating a rib, give it to the dog. This is a no no, as cooked bones can splinter. It’s the same with a cat. However, raw bones are more easily digested and don’t splinter. I give my dog a small raw hambone at christmas and he’s a happy camper ^_^

Dry food is not recommended for cats due to the fact it will cause them to tank up on water. They have very small kidneys to process all that water. Cats are designed to hydrate themselves through the meat they eat. That is why I use 1 cup of water for every pound of meat. The bone from raw poultry is a way for them to clean their teeth. Please check the articles at celestialpets com for additional information. I follow Dr. Yarnall’s regime outlined in her books. Thank you for you comment.

who ever told you that? dogs are pretty much just a modified wolf. Wolves don’t spit bones out when eating prey like rabbits, and mice. Sure they can’t quite crack the bones of a moose but they consume softer bones without a problem. The only reason they warn you so much about chicken bones is because the only bones ever fed to dogs were cooked, from the owners plate, the raw ones don’t splinter nearly as easily.

I didn’t think dogs could eat raw bones because they lack the enzyme to break the bones down. Cats have that enzyme. I could be wrong, but I thought it was bad for a dog to eat the bones because they can splinter and tear a hole in the dog’s intestine. Like I said though.. I don’t know for sure. Just what I heard.
