I need alternative pet food for Wellness.?

I will be adopting another dog and I think she is a Greyhound mix. I have a half rot/boxer and food is getting expensive. I want to adopt the greyhound puppy because I found her in the fields but the food is expensive. What is a good but cheaper brand? Or stick it out with Wellness

Canidae All Life Stages is one of the cheapest premium foods available.

It’s also a great choice if you’ve got dogs of different ages in your home since it’s for all dogs, from Puppies through Senior years.

I buy solid gold for $50 -33 lb bag at Petco.

I own a 6 month, 70 lb dane/saint mix. We only buy her food once a month. So its really not that bad. With two medium sized-large dogs it should only be about $75 a month for you

Canidae, Blue Buffalo and Solid Gold are usually reasonably priced and comparable in quality. Alternately, look at Kirkland dog food from Costco. It is not as good as Wellness, but much better than most foods on the market. It is corn, wheat, and soy free, has a good amount of meat content, and no non-specific ingredients. It’s one real drawback is that it does use beet pulp, which is a controversial byproduct ingredient, but beyond that it is better than anything found in a grocery store or even most major pet stores.

You may also look into a raw home-formulated diet, which can be less expensive than feeding kibble if you can buy in bulk (will need a large freezer). Organ meats and cheap meat cuts from a local butcher can be very inexpensive if you have a good local supplier. But, if you go that route, do a lot of research first- you want to make sure you are feeding a balanced diet and that the dogs are getting all the nutrition they need.

California Natural, Innova, Evo, I will say Wellness is pretty expensive for just one dog…If I saw right it was like 25 dollars for an 8 pound bag of food at one point….California Naturals is 23 dollars for 20lbs but for that many dogs I don’t know how much it will be

I agree a lot with what the others said here. Also make sure you read the feeding guidelines on the bag of food for your dogs and their size/weight. I did NOT do that at first and realized I was serving waaaay too much food to my dogs. I’ve cut back and now I’m not going through food so much. They are on Solid Gold…

They ship. And you can always get some sort of discount. Also, go to the wellness site and see if there are any coupons. Go to google and also type in wellness dog food coupons and see what you find.

Good luck. Great brand of food!

I feed ByNature by Blue Seal. I’ve been very happy with the food, my lab puppy has a soft coat and it’s very shiny. He was on Canidae when I got him at 11 weeks and I switched him over to ByNature puppy formula (I like to see a higher fat/protein for puppies) He has done really well on it and it’s not too expensive. $35.49 for 33#, plus there’s a buy 10, get 1 free program!

I have two female boxers (56 pounds and 50 pounds), and they eat Flint River Ranch Lamb and Rice. You can get their original formula for $62.64 for 40 lbs. 40 pounds lasts me a little over 4 weeks. My 56 pound boxer eats a cup and a quarter a day, and my 50 pound boxer who needs to gain weight eats three cups a day. The 56 pound boxer would only get two cups a day if the smaller one didn’t need to eat twice.
